 We started with two llamas for grass control and learned about alpacas on the web doing research on the care of our llamas.

One visit and one workshop at Mike Safley’s ranch and I was hooked. Jann is a little more careful than I, but one look at Miss Carlee at El Ranchito in Santa Ynez and we were the owners of four alpacas that weekend in February 2003.

We are making the move to become full time alpaca ranchers and retire from our shops in town.

I was born on a cattle ranch founded in 1856 near Yreka, CA just south of the Oregon boarder on Interstate 5 and have been on or around ranching all my life but alpacas are by far the BEST livestock I have worked with or around.

We have spent the last few years building a fine herd of alpacas with many ribbon winners and a very nice line up of young herdsires and jr. herdsires in whites. Grays and two outstanding blacks. One of the blacks, Calzadas Benvolio, was reserve color champion at Alpaca Fest West in his junior year. The other black herdsire is Hangman Valley’s Memphis Blue who is a grandson of 4Peruvian LEGACY 6016
